About this lesson

Over the next couple of weeks or months, you’ll be reaching out to a lot of different people to learn more about career pathways in the professional workforce. That means you’ll need to introduce yourself so that people understand who you are, where you’re going, and what you hope to do next.

A strong PhD career transition story is forward-looking; it should highlight who you are as a professional and where you’re hoping to go next. It should also be positive and focus on what you’ll gain by moving to the professional workforce instead of highlighting what you’ll lose by leaving academia. In your story, you’ll highlight your top marketable skills and your values and motivators.

This lesson will help you design a compelling career transition story that you can use on your LinkedIn profile and when you’re networking.
