Questions to Consider

  1. How can you clarify your goals?
  2. How can you determine if you are ready?
  3. How can you maximize your readiness?
  4. What can you do to align your next steps with the hiring timeline.

  1. Begin identifying your goals for going on the academic job market. Why do you want to enter the job market? What are the ultimate goals associated with those reasons? What is your primary or most important goal?
  2. Using the self-assessment questions provided in the seminar, determine whether you are ready to go on the academic job market. Can you create and describe the required work products and experience? Can you access emotional and social resources? How would this decision impact your responsibilities?
  3. Attempt to create a timeline, flowchart, or mind map that represents the steps still required to successfully complete your graduate work. Compare your timeline, flowchart or mind map with the job market timeline provided in the seminar. When would be a reasonable time to enter the academic job market?
