You’ve researched and evaluated your career options and started building a new network. Now, it’s time to get laser-focused on landing a job in one career field of interest.
During the next 3 to 6 months, you’ll spend time reading yourself into your chosen career field (by networking, taking online courses, listening to podcasts, and/or doing contract work), while you actively apply for jobs. It’s important that you balance your time networking, learning, and submitting applications.
And remember that most jobs are filled through networks and referrals. So, rather than randomly submitting resumes on LinkedIn or Indeed, focus on connecting with professionals who work in companies of interest. As jobs get posted at these companies, you’ll already have connections who can put in a good word for you with a hiring manager. Plus, your community will help guide you in finding certifications and gaining contract work. Best of all, they might be a referral for jobs and opportunities.
Watch this lesson to learn more about how to implement a laser-focused job search that will land you a career in your chosen career field.
